Deadly, Motion-Controlled Combat with Wii Technology
Your Wii controller gives you the ability to move stealthily and attack quickly, just like the real creatures these characters are based on. Each animal has a unique mode of operating, which means that the two interconnected narratives behind this game each offer their own distinctive challenges to conquer.

As the armored, action-oriented scorpion, you'll string together stinging blows into deadly combo moves that culminate in cinematic finishes and decimate your opponents. Playing as the sneaky tarantula requires a little more finesse--you'll find yourself leaping from above onto your nemesis, throw out neatly aimed shots of webbing to paralyze your prey, and finishing creatures off with your devastating fangs.

Wild Enemies and a Sinister Back Story
It takes skill and composure to master the moves the scorpion and tarantula have at their disposal. And, even after you think you've got every move down, you'll find you need to learn methods, since these life-and-death struggles take place between you and a huge array of vicious, hazardous creatures, including wolf spiders, rattlesnakes, Gila Monsters, Tarantula Wasps, black widows, mantises, enemies of your own species, rats, and even humans.

Beyond the immediacy of fighting for survival, this game features a story of greed and betrayal in the human world. Slowly unveiled from the disparate perspectives of the two headline creatures, this evolving storyline helps keep even advanced players engaged and guessing at the implications of their own actions.

Explore Brutal, Unforgiving Environments
Whichever creature you're playing as, you'll have 360-degree access to a wide range of 3D environments based in the harsh Sonoran Desert. You'll explore a gloomy maze of thorny brambles, forgotten underground tunnels filled with rusting pipes, an above ground wasteland packed with people's garbage, and even a desolate gas station. Each arena promises to challenge your skills as a hunter and a survivor in its own way, while unique angles and a sense of scale that turns small, familiar objects into major obstacles help make these environs especially prickly.

Awesome
I used to love playing video games when I was younger, but nowadays the industry seems dominated by first-person shooters. When I read about Deadly Creatures, it seemed like a breath of fresh air. I love insects and wildlife, and this game lets you play two of the most infamous bugs around - the scorpion and tarantula. The game perspective really puts you in their (eight) shoes as you munch on crickets and battle other bugs.

Here are my thoughts after playing the game for a few hours:

GRAPHICS:
Superb. Perhaps not at the same level of some other systems, but pretty darn close. The creatures, especially the scorpion and tarantula, look beautiful. You can actually see the hairs on your tarantula's legs. It almost feels like watching a movie - or a gory nature documentary. In fact, the game is so well integrated with the cutscenes that at times I couldn't tell where one ended and the other began.

GAMEPLAY:
Generally, all of the moves are smooth and easy to learn. The Wii controls really give it a more natural feel.

There are some points when gameplay slows for a second as the game loads. Some other reviewers have complained about these issues, but they seem to only take about less than a second at most.

REPLAY:
I agree with the other reviewers that some of the levels are pretty straightforward and that it won't be much of a challenge for hardcore gamers. Although, I thought the tarantula's levels were cool in that they really took advantage of all three dimensions, with a lot of 3-D vertical climbing.

I can't say you'll be playing this over and over, but it is fun to simply go around smashing bugs, even if there's not much more to discover. For a lot of modern gamers (like myself), a great 10 hour game is far better than a frustrating, lackluster 50 hour game.

PLOT:
As odd as it might sound, a game starring bugs does have a strangely compelling storyline. It's simply, but a lot of care went into it. Each level leads to the next, with various clues about the exploits of the two deadliest creatures in the desert - mankind.

MUSIC:
Creepy. You can actually download it on iTunes.

Overall, Deadly Creatures is probably one of the most original and fun games to come out in years. If you check out the interviews in the game and on their website, you can tell a lot of thought, passion, and care went into the making of Deadly Creatures (including studying live scorpions and tarantulas in order to mimic their movements). I really love the idea of a video game allowing you to experience life as an animal. Hopefully, more game designers will explore that option (I'd love a game that lets you play as a hawk for example!).

On another note, you can easily find this game for around used or less. At that price, the game is nearly a steal.

Do you like crawly things?
This is a fun game, if a little short. The novelty of playing something that you'd typically see on a nature program is interesting. The game play does become a little repetitive, but the cinematic elements of combat help keep things interesting. It uses the Wiimote gesture based control actions in a fairly well thought out fashion-- attack combos really felt like the system was built around the Wii platform rather than as an afterthought. The view camera angles can be a little cumbersome at times. The subject matter would cause me to guess that a target audience would be boys around 10 or 12 years old (the "gross is cool" stage), but there is a fair level of violence and gore that may concern some parents. All in all a slightly creepy, fun game.

deadly creatures: worth your time
This odd little gem could probably only have appeared on the Wii, which is known for quirky, offbeat titles. Deadly Creatures is set in the American Southwest, and alternate levels let you control a scorpion or a tarantula, each with unique abilities and combat moves for you to unlock. The game is played with nunchuck/ wii remote and some motion controls are integrated into the advanced combat techniques.
The motion controls work quite well, with only the occasional misfire. Anyway, the story is actually an intertwining of two stories, the struggle of the scorpion and spider and the quest of two treacherous treasure hunters, capably played by Dennis Hopper and Billy Bob Thornton.

The humans are rarely directly seen, at least at first. Instead your arachnid will eavesdrop and sometimes glimpse them as they pursue their quest, disturbing your desert home. The unique perspective of this game and the effort put forth into telling an interesting narrative are excellent ideas that really piqued my interest, and I couldn't wait to see how it turned out.

But you are looking at this game for the creepy crawlers, right? Well, the scorpion is slow, armored, can dig with its claws, inject venom, and climb walls. He's the bruiser of this game, and the new techniques he can learn means you can have some freedom in your fighting style. The tarantula conversely is more about freedom of movement. He can climb walls (ceilings eventually) jump, shoot webs to briefly bind most enemies and zipline to any of the many cobwebs in the game.

I don't think I'd call this a survival horror or horror game at all. I don't recall seeing any kind of gore and the game doesn't have any "boo!" moments, although trying to figure out how to fend off a trio of lizards or invading a wasp nest are pretty nerve wracking, never mind facing off against a rattlesnake or a Gila Monster.

There are a few occasional graphic hiccups, the game pauses sometimes to load,
and sometimes it's not exactly clear what needs to be done next. These were no big issue for me but they might annoy some people. Actually, the flaws in this game are exacerbated by how good the rest of this game is, and how a little extra polish could have made this a great game, instead of a good game. Still, it's generally available for around fifteen bucks, and it is completely worth the price. Nevermind the fact that you get to be spider and a scorpion. How many games offer that?

game
I bought this game for my husband. He really likes playing it, and our daughter likes to watch him gobble up and fight other creatures.

bug eating,crawling up walls,AWESOME!!
I am eleven years old and I absolutely LOVE this game. Being the tarantula and the scorpion really brings this game to life. The good things are feeding off of bugs(which is an upgrade you have to unlock),seeing things from an arachnids point of view(for example, praying mantisis, radios etc. A lot of parts you come close to encountering the humans which makes it even more interesting. I think the tarantula is easier to kick butt with because it is more agile. It is also better to explore with because you get to upgrade to climb on the ceiling! The scorpion on the other hand kills creatures that are grounded and not as agile. Its stinger is useful for destroying creatures that are slow. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME FOR ALL WII OWNERS!!!
