Unbelievably expensive for a poorly made cheap piece of plastic
I have had to take apart and fix this guitar three times (the spring in the whammy bar gets disconnected or breaks). Now the wireless dongle is dead (like MANY others have reported) and we are just out of luck. You can't buy just the dongle. You have to buy a new guitar, which is more than we paid for the ENTIRE bundle originally. It is a sham. For a company that makes the Wii remotes that can take a beating and keep working, Nintendo should be embarrassed to have partnered with a company that produces such a shoddy product, and there should be a recall on the dongles. Neither the guitar, the USB hub (the middle plastic piece broke off on of our ports), or the wireless receiver dongle stand up to moderate and normal use. I think I've spent as much time fixing this guitar (or troubleshooting it) as I have playing with it.

Terrible Quality
What a piece of junk. I got this for my birthday and used it probably five times over the next few months. And, lo and behold, right as the 60-day warranty had expired (EA knows they make pieces of crap, that's why the warranty period is so short), the thing just completely stopped working. Wouldn't turn on, no light, no nothing. Changed the batteries, nothing. It just broke. Called customer support and they just laughed, saying yeeeah, sorry, it's a piece of crap and we know it, it too!
And these things are so FREAKING expensive, to boot. Really lousy.

Wii Rock Band guitar is a sham...
The Wii Rock Band guitar's wireless receiver (white little box called a "dongle") will basically stop working after a few hours of play. This is due to its poor circuitry design (it fries very, very easily). You cannot buy a replacement part, EA and Harmonix will both ask you to buy the whole set again. It's a very insane situation, please use Google to verify what I have said here as it is a huge problem that they refuse to acknowledge. They make no reference to this problem in their online tech support or on their forums (but their disgruntled customers have made many, many posts on both).

You will fight over this guitar!
We bought this as a add on to Rock Band 2 and LOVE it. We actually fight over who gets to play it. The buttons are sooo quite and responsive. Worth every penny, got a black and white skin to compliment it. You will definitely notice the difference if you are used to playing a older version.

Decent
I love Rock Band. The peripherals are not quite as nice. They work fine but really do wear out relatively quickly. I have played the game using my own guitar and my nephew's guitar. His has more problems than mine because he is only 7 and he and his friends are rough on it. Mine took a beating from my older nephew, but still works decently. His whammy bar and overdrive sensor eventually quit working and the fret buttons got "sticky" somehow, hard to press. My strum bar doesn't work as well, and that's my only real problem so far. His guitar is only 7 months old and mine is 5 months old.
Pros:
1) I love the second set of frets. My hand is too small to comfortably use the large ones and I really like that during intense solos I can just tap the frets and not need to strum.
2) I love that the strum bar does not click (unlike on Guitar Hero). Some people complain that they don't know if the strum registers without the click, but to me it feels more realistic and you clearly know if it registered or not by looking at the screen. =)
3) I like that it is wireless and does not need a Wiimote inserted into it.
4) Lifelike size and look; it's much more realistic than the Guitar Hero one and I like its appearance.
Cons:
1) The fret buttons are __way too loud__ when you press them. It really detracts from playing.
2) The strum bar does not hold up well! My oldest nephew has only used my guitar a few times but he did some damage to the strum bar by strumming too hard. Whatever is inside to register the strum must have gotten damaged or worn off, because the down strum does not register nearly as well as the up strum. It caused me to miss significant amount of notes until I'd adjusted to strumming harder myself, which must only exacerbate the problem...
3) Sometimes the connection between the guitar and the dongle just stops working. And not as a result of inactivity; it just seems like there are a few bugs there. But it generally works just great for me.
Overall, I really just wish the fret buttons were A LOT quieter and the strum bar a lot sturdier. I am now hesitant to let my nephews use my guitar because it really is a fragile piece of a equipment and I cannot afford a new one.
